Assembly title
Jesus The Miracle Worker

Submitted by
Lindsay McLean

Age group
5-11

Brief aim

A visual assembly that shows how Jesus performed miracles

Faith Group
Christian based

Resources
Glass jug of water (transparent)
Several glasses (transparent)
Tray with a high lip/Cloth
Red food dye

Assembly
Explain the idea of Jesus as a miracle worker and start to read the story of Jesus at the wedding of Canaan.

As you read through the story, clearly show the children that you are pouring water from the jug into a glass.
When the glass is full put it down and pick up another. This should have red food dye in it and the base should be hidden.

Hold this glass at the bottom, concealing the base/food dye.
When it gets to the part when Jesus turns water into wine, pick up the glass as before and pour water into the glass.
The children are amazed to see the clear water from the jug turning into 'red wine' in the glass.

This may be a cheap visual trick, but pulls every child onto the assembly and the awe and wonder of Jesus's acts.

If the children were amazed by this, think how people were amazed by the miracle Jesus performed.

Explain the difference between a trick and a miracle.
(Jesus had no food dye.)
